Balanced scoring, defensive pressure and sharp ball movement helped Cincinnati basketball pull away from BYU in a key Big 12 matchup.

The University of Cincinnati men’s basketball team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Tuesday night, defeating BYU 90-68 at Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats used defensive pressure, efficient shooting and a balanced offense to control the game and give the home crowd a strong Senior Night result.

Cincinnati set the tone early and stayed in command for most of the night. According to ESPN’s game stats, the Bearcats led for 93 percent of the game and built a lead as large as 24 points. UC shot 50 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range, while also finishing with 24 assists on 32 made baskets.

The Bearcats’ defense played a major role in the outcome. Cincinnati forced 15 BYU turnovers and turned those mistakes into 21 points. UC also recorded 10 steals and six blocks, showing activity across the floor while limiting BYU’s rhythm on offense. The Bearcats committed only seven turnovers themselves, which helped them stay in control from start to finish.

Jalen Celestine and Jizzle James led Cincinnati with 18 points each. Baba Miller added 15 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, giving the Bearcats a strong inside presence along with playmaking support. Day Day Thomas, Sencire Harris and James each had three steals as Cincinnati continued to pressure BYU’s guards and disrupt possessions.

BYU got 23 points from AJ Dybantsa and 21 from Robert Wright III, but the Cougars struggled to overcome the turnover margin and Cincinnati’s steady pace. BYU’s official recap pointed to those mistakes as a major factor, noting that the Cougars’ turnovers led directly to scoring chances for the Bearcats.

For Cincinnati basketball, the win showed what the Bearcats can look like when the offense is moving and the defense is active. Against BYU, UC did not rely on one player to carry the night. Instead, the Bearcats won with depth, ball movement and pressure defense, the kind of formula that can matter in March.
